I have been doing some downsizing on my server fam in the basement. When I moved in I figured ‘solar. I will never have to worry about my electricity bill again’.
Not true, I have 3 Cisco 1U servers that cost about $30 each per month to run! They are hungry little devils, and LOUD!
I have downsized, shut them all down and moves to a single server which is a Dell Precision 5820, very calm, very quiet and VERY powerful, but it could use some RAM.
I pulled 256 GB of RAM from one of the pizza box servers and put it in the 5820 and it worked like a charm! SUCCESS!!!
This little guy will now run my entire digital world, and you can not even hear it run! Nice, this was an incredible upgrade and a super nice find as memory is still expensive, and I have almost a terabyte of RAM in my basement!
