Ham Radio

Ready for the trail

I installed a mobile Ham radio in the Jeep today, getting it ready for the trail. this is a cheapie I had in the bottom of my tool box, I think it was in the truck at one time and I had originally bought it for the 4-wheeler.

It is a nice tiny little unit and seems to work reasonably well, I have a temporary magnetic antenna mounted on the hood by the radio antenna until my window mount get’s here.

Now figuring out how to program this Chinese cheapie might be a challenge, but – Challenge accepted! You can reach out for miles and mile with these little radios, perfect for if you breakdown or get stuck when running around off-road.

Not that that will ever happen, but also we can use it to talk back to the ‘base station’ (Motorhome) when we are traveling.

“Rubber Duckie to base, can you hear me base?”

Yeah you can do it all with a cell phone, but this is more fun for sure!!!

WoW (Words of Wisdom): Day 56 – Hidden gift

Every challenge carries a hidden gift.

Even when life feels unfair or heavy, there’s often a lesson or strength being shaped within you. Look beyond the struggle—what is this moment teaching you?

Often, the hardest seasons produce the deepest wisdom.
